WATCH: Stephen Colbert Discovers A Benghazi/Hillary Clinton Bombshell, Then Apologizes For It

The apology offered by 60 Minutes for its false Benghazi story  — issued in the last minute of the broadcast on Sunday night — satisfied no one.

Democrats wondered why there was no repeat of the consequences that rained down on Dan Rather and his producers after they were forced to apologize for their story about George W. Bush’s National Guard record. Republicans were disappointed to learn that a story about Benghazi could be fact-checked.

Stephen Colbert, however, took his frustration over a Benghazi!! story falling apart, and went to work.

On Monday night, he followed up his dissection of 60 Minutes‘ apology with his own bombshell that led where any right-wing story about Benghazi must lead to — HILLARY CLINTON.

Just moments after his bombshell was undermined when his star witness turned out to be The Newsroom‘s Charlie Skinner, Colbert did the right thing and apologized for his report, while blaming “somebody else.”
